The Walnut Street Walking Paper began in 1975 when a group of neighbors met to begin the process of nominating Walnut Street to the National Register of Historic Places.
The newsletter is so named because it is delivered on foot each month to the front porch of each resident.
Its original intent was to keep the neighbors informed as the nomination papers were developed. But the publication of The Walking Paper did not stop with the acceptance of Walnut Street into the Register. It Continues today as a primary tool for neighborhood communication.
