WALNUT STREET HISTORIC DISTRICT

ACCOMPLISHMENTS – 2006


1.Reactivated the dormant Walnut Street Historic District Neighborhood Association.

2.Established minimum standards for upkeep of properties.

3.Established a set amount for annual dues ($25 per family).

4.Rented a mailbox (P. O. Box #714) for the neighborhood.

5.Began the development of a printed neighborhood directory.

6.Conducted an Easter Egg Hunt for neighborhood children.

7.Created a one-page fact sheet of advantages of living/owning property in a historic district.

8.Conducted a walking tour in conjunction with the Florence-Lauderdale Tourism Bureau.

9.Created a letterhead for neighborhood correspondence.

10.Presented a copy of A Walk Down Walnut to the public library.

11.Staged a neighborhood year sale.

12.Contributed financially toward the children’s summer party at the public library.

13.Hosted a neighborhood party on July 4.

14.Contributed financially toward a charity golf tournament.

15.Cleaned and trimmed a neighbor’s yard.

16.Made heavy plastic containers for recyclables available to neighborhood residents at $5.00 each.

17.Decorated streetside lamp posts and entry pillars for Christmas.

18.Wrote letter of support for Carriage Strolls of the Shoals.

19.Conducted a neighborhood Christmas party on December 21.

20.Presented monetary gifts to neighborhood postal and newspaper carriers.
